This amateur gun-maker just built a 3-D printed, portable rail gun and it’s insanely cool.
When it comes to home improvement projects, this guy takes it to the extreme.
Known only as NSA_Listbot on Reddit this amateur gun designer just put together the first, albeit inadvisable, homemade and 3-D printed rail gun outside of the US Navy.
While rail guns operate on some seriously complicated physics, it doesn’t require the projectiles to be magnetic like the coilgun or gauss rifle.
According to the builder, this crazed, home-built rail gun will deliver an aluminum pellet at 250 m/s. A standard .22 round moves at around 350 m/s.
All that and it’s portable, too!
While we’re always looking for a project to keep us busy, we may just leave the hyper-sonic rail gun business to our friends at the United States Navy.
Don’t try this at home.
