Ohio Black Bear Gets Around, Spotted in North Canton and Akron

There are 50 to 100 black bear in the state of Ohio, and one seems to be getting around this spring.

A black bear seen in North Canton, Ohio, on May 12 wandered through Akron May 17. At least that’s what officials believe.

The bear was spotted near a golf course in North Canton. Next, several residents saw the black bear in their back yards in Akron.

After receiving several calls, Akron police captured the bear on video.

Laura Graber from the Ohio Division of Wildlife says the bear weighs between 250 and 300 pounds and looks to be at least three years old.

Graber says the bear may be looking for food, or a mate. Mating season is from May to July.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife says it doesn’t plan on interfering with the bear, unless it gets stuck or begins to cause problems.
