Grab your kids, wife, or buddies and enjoy New York’s free fishing weekend June 27 and 28.
This upcoming Saturday and Sunday all residents and visitors will be allowed to fish all legal waters for free without a license. You also won’t have to enroll in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry to fish coastal waters for saltwater fish.
This is a great time to take someone who has been interested in learning to fish out for their first outing. As well as an amazing excuse to kick your kids into the outdoors, or to come from out of state to try fishing for the numerous species that New York offers.
Under normal state laws anyone under the age of 16 is required to have a state-issued fishing license. This applies to anyone heading out to any of New York’s 7,500 lakes and ponds or 50,000 miles of rivers and streams.
If you are looking for a place to go, check out the Department of Environmental Conservation’s website which lists numerous public fishing locations.
