A 19-year-old man was charged by the state DEC with deliberately running over seagulls in a Walmart parking lot in Albion.
Tyler Strassner, 19, of Kendall, N.Y. was arrested and charged on December 18, 2015 after allegedly running his car through a flock of seagulls in a Walmart parking lot in Albion, N.Y.
Among the charges that Strassner is facing: illegally killing protected wildlife, illegally killing wildlife with a motor vehicle, and illegally taking wildlife during a closed season.
Paul D’Amato, Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, said “This type of illegal activity will not be tolerated. Protection of New York State’s fish and wildlife resources is an important mission for DEC, and anyone who kills animals for fun and with disregard of the laws will face punishment.”
Strassner, who is scheduled to be in court January 12, 2016, could face up to two years in jail and a possible $12,000 fine.
