Here’s the New York DEC’s Basic Hunter Safety Reminder

hunter safety

This is the time of the year that many New Yorkers are in the field hunting. Now the state DEC has posted a video reminding everyone of basic hunter safety.

NYS DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos and his staff members have taken the time to post a video reminding all New York hunters of the basics of hunting safety.

Starting with the most simple rule, treat every gun as if it was loaded, and ending with the importance of wearing hunter blaze orange, the DEC has issued a simple two-minute film for everyone to see.

Watch this with your favorite youth hunter!

Now with firearms deer season nearing its end, it’s a good time to remember that other seasons will remain such as late muzzleloader, grouse, and even pheasant clubs that are still open.

Just like assuming that every gun is loaded, it’s never a bad idea or a waste of time to review these simple rules and keep them in the front of your mind.

Cheers, and good hunting in New York!
