New Jersey Officials Extend Black Bear Hunting

The New Jersey bear hunting extension went through; here’s the latest.

Last week the New Jersey bear hunting season was wrapping up, but officials decided to extend the season, with a four-day addition.

Since the original season dates delivered below expectations (472 had been harvested during the first, six-day hunt), the decision to extend the season was made last Sunday.

On Wednesday, Dec. 16 (the first day of the extended hunt), 17 black bears were hunted, most of them coming from Sussex County.

The black bear hunt in New Jersey officially ends a half hour after sunset on Saturday, Dec. 19.
