The National Elk Wildlife Refuge’s Recreational Planner witnessed this standoff between two juvenile mountain lions and five coyotes that lasted more than an hour. The mountain lions took refuge on a high fence while the coyotes kept close watch. The coyotes made sure to let the young cats know they weren’t welcome on their turf.
