Moray Eel Battles Octopus, Then Takes on Underwater Cameraman

This moray eel versus octopus showdown is invigorating until the eel changes prey.

A cameraman snorkeled in the waters of the Hanauma Bay in Oahu when he filmed this moray eel versus octopus showdown.

The eel was viciously biting the octopus for a snack when it finally detached one of the octopus’s tentacles. Octopus tentacles, however, can grow back once they are removed.

The nasty looking moray turns to different prey after the octopus.

If you have ever snorkeled you may know the sense of panic when an underwater creature such as a fish, ray, shark, or eel starts swimming towards you. They can navigate the water much better than we can and are typically at least twice as fast.

This snorkeler, thankfully, was able to escape. The moray could have just been defending its new meal.
