Missouri turkey hunters continued to put up great harvest numbers in the 2014 spring season.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) released the state’s spring turkey hunting numbers, signaling the third spring in a row with increased totals.

Texas County and Franklin County led the way with 938 and 921 turkeys taken, respectively. You can find a county-specific count on the MDC’s site here.

Add the youth season total (4,332 turkeys from April 12 and 13, 2014), and you get a grand tally of 47,605.

That’s the third seasonal increase since 2011 for the state.

Experts say Missouri’s better than normal weather during the spring hunting season, combined with quality turkey hatches over the last couple of years, contributed to the numbers.
