Morel hunting in Michigan just got a whole lot easier thanks to the DNR and their statewide burn location map.
When hunting morel mushrooms, knowing where to start is half the battle.
Thankfully the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has introduced an interactive map, winning part of that battle for you. The map identifies prescribed burns as well as wildfire locations in excess of 10 acres, both potential honey holes for morels.
Not every burn site is guaranteed to hold the spring bounty, that research is still left to the seeker.
Though morels prefer burn sites, the DNR is sure to note that positively identifying your quarry is the hunter’s responsibility.
