Two men who allegedly beat a North Carolina wildlife officer had their charges upgraded to attempted murder.
According to WYFF-TV, Officer Aaron Stronach was patrolling the Green River Game Lands in Henderson County when he was accosted by two men.
Derek Arold, 27, and Matthew Arold, 26, are accused of viciously beating Stronach on May 2 and leaving him with head injuries requiring a night in the hospital. Authorities say the attackers used a motorcycle helmet as a weapon and kicked Stronach in the head. According to commission Lt. Sam Craft, Stronach was “swollen head to toe” and doesn’t know how long he’ll have to miss work.
The two suspects were arrested the following Sunday in Pisgah National Forest. It is unclear if the two men are related, and authorities have not given a motive for the attack. However, some area residents report the men attacked Stronach after he questioned them about ginseng root theft. Authorities have refused to comment on those allegations.
