As catch-and-release fishing becomes more and more popular, fishing tournaments are evolving to account for this.

The big goal here is to reduce the amount of unwanted fish that are taken as a result of the fishing tournament. If someone chooses to release their fish, they can still compete and are not penalized for it. Likewise, if they choose to take it home for dinner.
All that is required is a photo of the fish on a measuring board for verification purposes. Each fish earns the team one point per centimeter.
I have to say, I think it’s an interesting concept and it sounds like a lot of fun. This could also mean some of the larger fish may be released to fight again another day.
