The Mauser C96 is a war horse pistol that dates way back to WWI.
This WWI pistol is quite the rare breed known as the “Red 9.”

The Mauser C96 is a very interesting stepping stone toward the semi-automatic pistols that we have in this modern age.
This Mauser C96 is known as a “Red 9” for the 9mm caliber it was chambered in and for the big red-colored 9 on the pistol grips.
This kept this old broom handle pistol from having the 7.63 Mauser cartridge loaded by mistake.
The Red 9s were used in World War One and were even supplied with a wooden holster that converted to one handy shoulder stock. This allowed for better accuracy at longer ranges.
What an interesting little piece of history!
