We’ve seen several videos of marlin fishing close calls, but this one may take the cake.
The two anglers in this clip are reeling in a fighting marlin from the deck of their boat. But the marlin won’t go down without a fight – it leaps headlong into the boat and nearly impales both of the guys on the way in.
The marlin’s sharp bill missed both fishermen by mere inches. Marlin and other species of billfish leap hard when hooked, which can be an added danger when they get close to the boat.
When they’re not trying to impale fishermen, Marlin use their sharp bills to stun and injure prey fish. They are some of the toughest fighters in the seas.
