Muskies on the fly shouldn’t be easy, but it is for these guys.
Muskies are known as a fish of 10,000 casts. When it comes to traditional gear, that isn’t really the case anymore. However, when it comes to chasing down muskies on the fly, 10,000 casts sounds about right.
As you are about to see, these guys are going to catch a lot of muskies. So many, in fact, they make it look easy. I can attest to the fact that catching any muskies on the fly is an accomplishment few experience in the world of fly fishing. However, catching this many in a short time period is something else altogether.
Yeah, so there’s that. Stuff like that is where legends come from. I spent 10 days in Northern Wisconsin chasing muskies on the fly. Using a brand new prototype Walton Rods 9-weight, I caught two fish. They were both fairly small, but I doubt I’ve ever been more proud than I was with those two sub 40-inch muskies.
Perhaps that’s one difference between fly guys and gear guys when it comes to muskies. Gear guys lose appreciation for muskies after a while. It’s always a chase for a bigger fish. When it comes to fly guys though, any muskie is a fish of lifetime when you chase them down on a fly rod.
