When These Florida Anglers Caught a Bizarre Shrimp-Like Creature, They Had No Idea What They Reeled In

This gigantic mantis shrimp was caught in Florida, and now we have something to stare at all day.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shared these photos of a huge mantis shrimp, which were taken by Steve Bargeron. He was fishing from a dock in Fort Pierce and saw some fellow anglers reel in the monster.

Yes, terrifying creatures like this actually live in Florida waters.

Scientists believe it’s a kind of mantis shrimp, which the FWC says is not actually related to any shrimp species, but is instead a totally different type of crustacean called a stomatopod.

The mantis shrimp has eyes on stalks that can move independently of each other, and is known as a vicious predator for its size and scale.
