This is unlike any of those “man wrestles bear” videos you’ve seen before.
For over 40 years, Doug Seus and his wife have lived on their ranch in Heber Valley, Utah with their three (previously four) bears. The fourth bear, Bart the Bear 1, died of cancer in 2000. The other three are brother and sister Bart 2 and Honey Bump, and the last is called Tank.
These bears are specially rescued and trained by Seus and have appeared in numerous Hollywood films and TV shows. Most recently, Bart 2 got a starring role in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, but that doesn’t take any Bart 2’s time away from Doug and their epic wrestling matches.
Check out the video below to see the two in action:
Seus’ bears have gotten the honor to stand alongside famous actors such as Brad Pitt, Jennifer Anniston and Eddie Murphy in a variety of work, but when it comes down to it Seus is just a man who is passionate about bears and their survival in the wild.
His bears, as well as himself and his wife, serve as ambassadors to their charity, Vital Ground, which helps to protect key landscapes used by grizzly bears and other wide-ranging wildlife. The Seus’, through their foundation, have been able to save thousands of acres for conservation.
While many of us dream of hunting bear, most are thinking about the Black bear, which does not face the same environmental issues as the Grizzly. These Grizzlies are a part of our history and a symbol of the American West. We hope that they are still around for our children, and our children’s children, so they too may experience this animal’s majesty.
