This concealed carry permit holder was tackled by a stranger in public thinking he was a criminal.
ON January 20, 2015 in Brandon, Florida, Clarence Daniels, a 57-year-old man with a concealed carry permit, took a handgun from his car and holstered in on his hip under his coat in the Walmart parking lot.
Michael Foster, 43, observed Daniels holster his gun and followed him into Walmart, tackling him in front of onlookers, claiming he thought he was a criminal.
Security footage of the scene was shared via the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office’s YouTube channel.
As seen in the video, another customer helped detain Mr. Daniels, who kept repeating he had a concealed carry permit until police arrived. Foster was arrested and charged with battery.
What can be learned from this video? For one, it’s clear that not every citizen knows and understands the laws surrounding firearm carry permits, so it’s important that you stay up to date. Also, being smart and situationally aware when you’re carrying a gun (and when you’re not) is the best way to protect yourself from dangerous incidents.
But perhaps the biggest lesson to learn is that you should never try to take the law into your own hands. If you suspect something is amiss, contact authorities.
