Man Pokes Bear in the Eye to Save His Lab Puppy From Being Mauled

To stop this black bear attack, one man utilizes the old ‘3 Stooges’ technique.

If you have been out and around nature enough, you have seen your fair share of moments when predators take our prey. The predator animal just gets that look in its eye, and you know it’s all but certainly over.

It might be a pike stealing your crappie, a coyote attacking a fawn, or any number of situations.

Dustin Gray, 29, haling from Maine, recently shared his story with the Bangor Daily News. He said his dog stopped to relieve itself on the side of the road when a black bear attacked. Almost without thinking, Gray started hitting the bear, but to no avail.

“I thought it was ready to eat me, like it was my turn,” Gray told the paper. “I stuck my finger right in its eye,” he continued. It was at that point that the bear dropped the puppy and turned and ran.

Both Gray and his dog walked away from this black bear attack mostly okay. His puppy was reported as having severe puncture wounds, but nothing that it can’t recover from.

Currently, this incident is under investigation.
