A small iron fish beat out numerous high tech designs to win the best product award at the Design Grand Prix in Cannes, France.
The Design Grand Prix by Cannes Lions is held in Cannes, France during the third week of June every year. Tens of thousands of entrants show off their designs in various categories and compete for a chance to win a gold, silver, or bronze medal. They also garner free advertising opportunities to help spread the word about their products.
Most entries are the most high tech, innovative products hitting the market. This year, the competition was turned upside down by a simple piece of iron shaped like a fish, called the Lucky Iron Fish. It has already helped thousands of people, specifically in Cambodia, improve their health and way of life.

I think my absolute favorite thing about this company is that they go out of their way to ensure every aspect of the product, from the manufacturing process to packaging, is environmentally friendly. They also help create jobs in poorer countries.
This just shows how sometimes we need to step back from technology to see what we can do to make the world a better place.
