These photos and video show a strange lizard-like creature lurking in the swamps of South Carolina. Is ‘Lizard Man’ real?

You be the judge. Legends have persisted since 1988 around Bishopville, South Carolina about a seven-foot bipedal reptilian creature lurking the back roads and swamps of the area.

And now, the legend seems to have re-surfaced. ABC News 4 out of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina received the following picture this weekend from a woman who identified herself only as Sarah.

Sarah told the news station in an email that she spotted the creature while leaving church on Sunday and snapped this photo of it.

“My hand to God, I am not making this up,” she said.

When news of the sighting near the church broke, the news station then received a video allegedly showing the legendary creature taken by an unidentified man back back in May.

“I saw your lizard man story and it’s given me the courage to send you a video I took in early May,” the man told the news station. “Though my wife believes me that it’s real, she said she would be embarrassed that everyone would think I was a loon so I kept it a secret.”

The footage was allegedly taken just off Camden highway in Bishopville.

“If you’re wondering, I absolutely believe it’s real. I also don’t know if it’s the same thing you posted,” the man said. “When it noticed me I high-tailed it out.”

Prior to these incidents, ABC News 4 says the last reported sightings of the “Lizard Man” happened in 2011. Sightings had died down some since an initial influx in the 1980s.

The legend and sightings originally started when a 17-year-old claimed he was chased by a reptilian beast that scratched up his car while he was changing a flat tire on the side of the road in 1988.
