If you only look at the image above, you might think it’s a screen shot from a video game. But it’s a very real, very nice trophy bull elk, and it walks nearly within an arrow’s length of the hunter.
It’s no video game. It really happened. Now I’ve seen footage of Michael Waddell nearly leading gobblers into the barrel of his shotgun, but this is as close as I’ve ever seen anyone take a trophy big game animal under a truly fair chase scenario, and with a bow.
I don’t know if this encounter was happenstance or if these guys scouted this particular animal. But I didn’t see any bait. The bull seemed to be descending a well-used trail, when he nearly fell into this hunter’s lap. So I’d have to say it’s probably the closest, truly fair chase bow kill, on a trophy bull elk I’ve ever seen.
Now that’s what you call having your dinner delivered.
