Even if you’re an experienced wrangler, you don’t want your hand in the mouth of an alligator for 10 minutes.
Veteran handler Jason McDonald found out the hard way that eventually you can put your hand into one too many alligator mouths.
Here’s the long and short of how it happened and what he did to escape the situation.
The alligator in question is an eight-footer and estimated to weigh in at 150 pounds.
The 34-year-old who has been wrangling at the Colorado Gator Farm for 10 years was grabbed for the first time while handling alligators. Co-workers had to pry the alligator’s mouth from McDonald’s hand using a metal pipe.
After a 10-minute long ordeal, he was freed and it wasn’t long before McDonald was wrangling alligators once again.
