Land Between the Lakes: A Conservation and Hunting Paradise

Lakes Between The Lakes National Recreation Area is a jewel that sits in Kentucky and portions of Tennessee.

It’s nestled between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley and is home to some of the best hunting in the eastern United States.

The Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area (LBL) is a story of controversy and triumph. There is a large bison herd here as well as elk. It’s also home to big mature whitetail, turkey galore and a large number of other game species.

The MeatEater took a trip to see what it was all about. This video gives some great background about LBL, but is also only a beginning.

LBL is not just a great place hunt and hike. It is also a testament to conservation efforts by federal and state agencies as well as non-governmental organizations like the National Wild Turkey Federation and others.

Even non game species have seen the benefit of the conservation efforts. The Monarch Joint Venture even gave an ward for work being done that helped in renewal of monarch butterfly populations.
