Lake Pontchartrain Speckled Trout Run is Sure Sign of Spring

Anglers in New Orleans were concerned that speckled trout wouldn’t make an appearance this spring in Lake Pontchartrain.

At issue was a winter opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway due to high winter flood waters. Spillway openings usually take place in spring, when the trout are heading to saltier water to spawn.

They didn’t have to worry, as the following video shows.

It seems the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has the number of trout it usually has this time of year. And that’s a sure sign of spring in New Orleans.

Anglers say that the speckled trout action is as good as or better than can be expected after a spillway opening.
