Visitors to Lake Austin will find a newly-installed fishing station for both weighing and holding anglers’ catches.
A newly-installed fishing station can be found at Lake Austin, next to the boat ramp under the Loop 360 Bridge. Anglers are free to use the Lake Austin station 24 hours a day to weigh and hold their fish.
Texas Parks and Wildlife officials say the Lake Austin weigh station features a certified scale and will increase the survival rates of largemouth bass.
Fisherman out during ShareLunker and largemouth bass season, which runs from Oct. 1 to April 30, can use the net enclosure provided at the Lake Austin station to hold fish in the lake until they are picked up by Parks and Wildlife.
Parks and Wildlife officials told reporters, “Few people realize that Lake Austin is one of the top bass-fishing lakes in Texas.”
ShareLunker catches can be reported 24 hours a day by calling (903) 681-0550. If bad reception makes this line unavailable, anglers can also call (888) 784-0600.
Those seeking more information about the rules and regulations of the ShareLunker program can visit the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center website. Anglers are encouraged to visit the ShareLunker Facebook page for current catches videos from Lake Austin.
