Why was a Los Angeles supermarket selling whole frozen raccoons as food?
According to reports, a Los Angeles Asian supermarket was selling whole frozen raccoon carcasses for $9.99 a pound.
Metro Supermarket in Temple City was offering up the carcasses complete with fur, blood and everything else, frozen and bagged up for sale.
The L.A. Health Department was called, and the supermarket agreed to not sell them anymore until further notice. Interestingly enough, none of the departments the reporters called knew if it was indeed illegal or not to sell raccoons as food, which was said to be a delicacy in other parts of the world.
The sample raccoon that had pictures taken of it cost $54.35. What gives?! We can hunt or trap raccoons in plenty of places, and all it costs is the price of ammo!
