Check Out the Kormaran, a Shape-Shifting Boat with All the Bells and Whistles [PICS]

Kormaran

This boat is truly in a class of its own.

German designer Kormaran created this amazing craft that can fluidly morph into six different boat types.

The boat’s been in development since 2007, and the latest prototype is here for your drooling pleasure.

If you’ve got the coin, you can arrange a personal appointment in Monaco to view the Kormoran in person. If you don’t, well, here’s the next best thing.

The Kormaran can quickly transform into six different “modes”: Monohull, Katamaran, trimaran, bathing mode, flight mode and night mode.

The boat is nearly 23 feet long, with a waterline of 18 feet and a draught that’s less than a foot.

It’s powered by three jets that produce 500 metric horsepower. The boat’s top speed is 38 knots (44 mph), which is pretty fast for a luxury boat. It can travel roughly 60 nautical miles at full speed on just one tank.

The boat’s structural components are made from carbon fiber and stainless steel titanium. The seats are covered in leather and the sun deck is made from teak wood.

The current prototype of the Kormaran is on dispaly in Monaco until Sept. 29. No word on how much one of these puppies costs, but you can bet it ain’t cheap.
