Our Kind of Documentary: Joe Brooks, the Father of Modern Fly Fishing [VIDEO]

An upcoming Joe Brooks documentary tells an incredible story of redemption, fly fishing, and the power of love.

Joe Brooks defined the term sportsman. He was a fly fisherman before it was cool, and truly encompassed modern day fly fishing.

Catch and release? That was Joe Brooks. Fly fishing in Argentina, the Caribbean, and elsewhere? Joe Brooks did that first. Catching anything other than trout or salmon on the fly? Pioneered by Joe Brooks.

The man became extremely well known in the 1960s due to his presence on ABC’s ‘The American Sportsman.’ The show was the very first outdoors TV series. Now, two of his nephews are telling his story in an incredible documentary.

Joe Brooks will inspire new generations of sportsmen once again.

Many of us involved in the outdoors community, or sportsman of the last generation know of Joe Brooks through his many books, TV appearances, and more. But what most don’t know is that Brooks was at one time a man debilitated by alcoholism and redeemed by love. See more details on the film’s website.
