The annual Kid’s Ice Fishing Event will be held in Winona, Minnesota on Feb. 7, and hopes to give children exposure to ice fishing.
The Kid’s Ice Fishing Event is an annual affair that will be taking place this year in Winona, Minnesota on Feb. 7.
Co-sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Friends of the Refuge Headwaters, the Kid’s Ice Fishing Event will be located at the McNally Boat Landing on Prairie Island Drive.
Children ages 6-13 can join the free event and their parents are more than welcome to join in on the fun. Each participant will be matched with an experienced ice angler to learn the basics of the sport.
Tackle, bait, and rods will be provided but officials at the Kid’s Ice Fishing Event encourage those who have equipment to bring it along with them. There will be a warming hut serving hot chocolate and cookies, but those attending should bring warm clothes regardless.
All kids must register for the event with a parent or guardian, and a registration station will be open for enrollment at the McNally Boat Landing.
