Kevlar helmet saves life of officer during the shootout at The Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
Kevlar is defined as a synthetic fiber of high tensile strength used especially as a reinforcing agent in the manufacture of tires and other rubber products and protective gear such as helmets and vests. In the case of one lucky Orlando police officer, it is a material that saved his life.
The Orlando Police Department posted the following image to their Twitter account.
During the horrific mass shooting at The Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in which 50 lives were taken and 53 wounded, one story that has emerged is that of an Orlando police officer – who was struck in the head during the early morning shootout on June 12.
The officer, who was not named, has his Kevlar helmet to thank for saving his life. The helmet was banged up and dented, but fortunately absorbed the impact of the high caliber bullet.
