It’s Never the Wrong Time to Watch a Ruffed Grouse Drumming

Watching this ruffed grouse on his drumming log will remind you why we chase these beautiful birds.

Whether it’s about territory, a mate, or both the drumbeat of a thunder-chicken is one of the most time stopping and appealing sounds in the woods.

It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve seen or heard this beautiful display of nature, we want to see it again and this is a good one.

Short, sweet, and to the point. My log, my territory- enter at your own risk! Thanks to Facebook user Matt Soberg for sharing his great video with all of us!

Since many U.S. states and pretty much all the Canadian Provinces hold populations of ruffed grouse it’s a good time to remind ourselves that many of these areas have laws posted preventing the fielding of dogs in the spring and early summer to protect these and other ground nesting birds; private property is usually excluded.
