Iowa Police Officer and Two Others Busted on 30 Hunting Violations

An Iowa police officer and two other men were charged with 30 hunting violations across two counties; they are set to appear in court in January. 

Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources have officially filed charges on three men, one of which is a police officer, for various hunting, trespassing, and firearm violations over two counties.

Dustin Hansen, Donald Kinzie, and Officer Bradley Wendt racked up all 30 violations over the weekend of Jan. 10, 2015. DNR officials were asked to check on the men after receiving numerous calls about the trios erratic behavior while deer hunting, when they had shot two bucks.

Hansen is charged with shooting over a public roadway, reckless use of a firearm, two counts of illegally taking deer, multiple counts of using a motor vehicle to take game, and illegal use of two-way communications. He was also charged with violating one-way traffic designations and stopping, standing, and parking on interstate right of way.

Kinzie was charged with two counts of illegally taking deer, use of a motor vehicle to take game, illegal use of two-way communications, two counts of trespassing in Cass County, one count of trespassing in Audubon County, illegal attempt to take a deer, and reckless use of a firearm causing property damage.

Officer Wendt was charged with two counts of illegally taking deer, use of a motor vehicle to take game, illegal use of two-way communications, two counts of trespassing in Cass County, one count of trespassing in Audubon County, illegal attempt to take deer, and reckless use of a firearm causing property damage.

Officer Wendt is currently on unpaid administrative leave from the Denison Police Department until the case against him is closed.

The charges were filed on Dec. 9, 2015. All three men are set to appear in court on Jan. 7, 2016 in both Cass and Audubon Counties.
