When it comes to man vs shark, which is the greater threat?
Sharks have struck fear into the hearts of humans for hundreds of years now. It’s a fear that was only stroked in 1975 with the release of the hit horror film Jaws.
But it seems humans are actually a far greater threat to sharks than they’ll ever be to us. This infographic nicely breaks down the number of attacks vs. the number of sharks harvested from the world’s oceans every year.

With up to 100 million sharks killed per year vs. only 70 attacks on humans, only five of those being fatal, it definitely puts things into perspective. While shark fishing looks like a lot of fun, it’s probably best to practice catch and release to ensure future generations get to enjoy fishing for the ocean’s top predators, too.
