Walleyes are showing up in Swan Lake, Montana, causing fisheries biologists to raise the alarm and offer a reward to find out who’s doing it.
Calling it “environmental vandalism,” the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department and other entities has now offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for introducing walleye illegally into Swan Lake.
The MFWP has documented over 600 illegal fish introductions into lakes around the northwestern part of the state.
Biologists say that these wrongful introductions are long-lasting and harsh on the system because these fish cannot be completely removed, thereby changing the biological makeup of the lake forever.
Illegal fish stocking can have long lasting effects and put multi-million dollar fisheries at risk for future generations.
