Yes, a 100-pound tarpon is capable of pulling three kayaks around.
Isn’t it great when you catch an awesome fish when you weren’t even trying? That’s what happened to Luther Cifers when he was tarpon fishing in Puerto Rico.
After a slow start to the day and several hours since his last hit, Cifers decided to try his hand at snook fishing at the nearby mangroves. Just for kicks, he left the perch he’d been using for tarpon on the line and out behind his kayak. Why not, right?
Much to his surprise (and delight), a huge tarpon hit his bait and was hooked, pulling the kayak sideways and essentially dragging him around as the two-hour fight began.
It’s so cool to see the power behind a 100-pound tarpon as it managed to tow three kayaks at once during the fight.
I can imagine Cifers was pretty worn out after such a long battle, but it would definitely have been worth it!
