Arizona Produced What’s Likely the New Pope & Young World Record Desert Bighorn

You’re looking at what’s most likely the new Pope & Young world record ram, shot in Arizona.

After last month’s 2016 Sheep Show (put on by the Wild Sheep Foundation, the world’s foremost authority on hunting and conserving wild sheep), Tony Loop learned he could be in sole possession of the Pope & Young world record Desert bighorn sheep.

Loop shot the largest ram ever harvested with a bow in November of 2015, with an official Pope & Young score of 186 4/8. He’ll wait for the official world record declaration after a panel scoring session at the Pope & Young National Convention held in April, 2017.

The current world record desert bighorn scored an impressive 179 3/8″. If it holds up, Loop’s ram would beat it by more than seven inches.

Apparently, if you’re looking for large Arizona rams, Dieringer Outfitters should be on your radar.
