Police and wildlife officials need your help catching the person or persons who poached this buck.
Authorities are looking for the poacher or poachers responsible for shooting a large mule deer buck in Butte on Monday, and there’s now a $1,000 reward up for grabs for anyone who can give information leading to a conviction of the person or people responsible.
The buck was shot sometime early Monday morning. Authorities were first alerted to the incident when they received a call about the animal being wounded near Butte’s Woolman and Main Streets. Butte law enforcement responded and found the buck dead on North Main St.
As is often the case with urban deer, this buck was well known for frequenting the Kelley Mine Yard and several other streets in the area. The poacher or poachers responsible could face charges for killing a deer out of season. The Independent Record also reports it’s illegal to shoot firearms within the Butte city limits.
Because the buck was found between 6 and 6:30 in the morning, there’s a chance the person responsible may have used artificial light — yet another violation.
