We’ve heard the phrase “don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” but we may need to rephrase that to don’t count your salmon catch before it’s in the boat.
If you have ever spend time on the water you will very quickly know the phrase “don’t count your fish before it’s in the boat” to be a real truth. Hooking a fish is difficult enough, but actually getting that fish all the way into the boat is an even greater challenge, especially in the case of an elusive salmon catch.
And sometimes the challenge is not what you expect at all.
While this is not at all one of the “normal” challenges that most fishermen face, it is one that does happen from time to time. You’ve heard the old phrase, “if you want to catch bigger fish, you have to use bigger bait,” and there is no fresher or more realistic bait than a fish that was just hooked seconds before.
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? It may not bring home a meal, but it does make for a great story to tell later own.
