Now is the time to get that gun dog trained right this summer and introduce it to all the aspects of waterfowling.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation show how to get that gun dog trained right to ensure they are ready for the marsh and field come this fall.
This is a great tutorial that shows how to expose a new gun dog gradually to all aspects of waterfowling and bird hunting. Critical is successive training building in complexity with a very slow introduction of the gun. It is a methodical process that will take time and patience and should not be rushed.
From personal experience with my two gun dogs you should consider at least starting them with a professional trainer; especially if you have a full-time career. It will be money well spent to build the retrieving foundations and get them used to the gun and will allow you to finish the dog once you get it home.
