Many would argue that elk produce the most insanely magnificant antlers on the planet. Here are a few sets that support that contention.

Perhaps the only beast that could have rivaled the modern elk or wapiti in the grandiosity of antler development would have been the Irish Elk, a prehistoric beast of epic proportions. Its antlers could measure up to 12 feet from tip to tip.

But even given the ridiculousness of the headgear of the Irish Elk, our American elk are no slouches. No, not by a long shot. The near-dozen shown here are just a few of the many true monsters of antler development.

We’ve presented two images for each entry in this gallery, to give you more than one angle from which to admire these incredible crowns.

Winters shot this giant bull with his Savage Model 99 .308 in Arizona’s White Mountains in 1968. But it wasn’t until 1995 and after Winter’s passing that the big rack was re-discovered and scored that Winter’s place in the record books was secured.
The bull scored 442 5/8.
