Freshwater Jellyfish in Missouri? Yep.
If you are scared of jellyfish and avoid the ocean because of it, now you have to worry about freshwater jellyfish. Just kidding. They are harmless to humans.
The video explains how they were found by kids on the end of the dock. Even the father in the video stated that he had never heard of freshwater jellyfish and he has lived there his entire life. They are rare and not much is known about how they got there. Biologists also do not know what impact they have on a body of water.
The discovery was made recently in Lake of the Ozarks and it is really not as rare as you may think. They are in 44 states and can be found throughout the different regions. They are native to China and according to the biologists, they pose no threat to humans.
Freshwater jellyfish eat plankton and fish eggs, so no need to worry if you plan to take a swim here.
