Florida Teen Battles Almost 400-Pound Tiger Shark for 2 Hours

When 16-year-old Luis Hernandez went fishing with his father in Florida, hooking into a tiger shark was always a possibility.

But hooking into a 400-plus-pound tiger shark? That was a bit more than the teen expected.

Luis and his father Orelis were fishing between Edison Reef and Arc Reef near Sanibel, Florida, when the shark took their bait.

The area between the reefs range from 42 to 58 feet deep. Some of the more common fish caught in the area are snapper, grouper and snook.

A shark? Not so common. A 400-pound shark? Even less common.

If it sounds like Luis is giving birth toward the end of the video, let’s give the teen a break. He had spent two hours reeling in the shark—all 400 pounds of it.
