A Bradenton, FL, resident was stuck by a catfish spine and has had four surgeries to save his vision after what is being called a “freak accident.”
Well, here’s yet another reason to wear sunglasses when fishing. It will help you maintain your eyesight in more ways than one, as Kory Williams found out.
As the video below shows, he took a catfish spine to the eye, blinding him: he is lucky his vision could be restored through surgery.
As mentioned, he was unaware there was a fish on the end of the line when the pole was handed to him. I would have done the same thing and set the hook: he set the hook hard on a fish waiting to be landed, resulting in a one-inch spine piercing his eye. Williams’ eye required a 2:00 A.M. emergency surgery and three more follow-up surgeries.
