Florida Basking Shark Terrifies Onlookers as They Warn Kayaker in Water

Little did they know, that basking shark was pretty much harmless.

In a video that is rather funny once you realize there is no real danger, onlookers on a dock in Panama City, Florida did everything they could to warn a guy on a kayak that some huge shark was coming right towards him. To most, it becomes apparent right away that the basking shark in the video wasn’t going to harm the kayaker, but don’t tell that to the people on the dock.

Here’s the video. One thing to keep in mind, according to sources, the kayak in the video is 14 feet long.

The basking shark is the second largest fish in the sea, only being beaten out by the whale shark. The largest basking ever record was just over 41 feet long, weighing in close to 19 tons. The shark in video is probably closer to 20 feet, so it still has a long way to go to reach those lengths.

Unfortunatley, overfishing in foreign waters have reduced these shark populations to endangered levels in some parts of the world. With that, they are protected just about everywhere.

Regardless if basking sharks are harmless to humans or not, seeing one in a kayak would flat out freak me out.
