Fishing Boat Sinks in Washington with 500 Gallons of Diesel Aboard

A fishing boat sank over the weekend in Ilwaco Channel in Washington with 500 gallons of diesel aboard. 

On Saturday morning the Coast Guard received a call of a fishing boat that ran aground in the Ilwaco Channel in Washington.

The 42-foot boat had 500 gallons of diesel aboard and the Coast Guard is keeping an eye on the wreckage for possible signs of pollution and as a possible hazard for boating navigation in the channel.

A light sheen has been reported on the water potentially from the diesel.

 The local who had initially made the call about the sinking boat also saved two people from the vessel before it sunk in the 40 feet of water.

The owner of the boat is working with a salvage company to safely remove the wreckage.
