Hiking season’s off to a good start with all 50 states participating in First Day Hike 2015.
On January 1st, outdoor lovers in all 50 states got up early and headed out for 2015’s First Day Hike. Although the event started 20 years ago, this is only the fourth year that every state participated.
Hosted by America’s State Parks, the day included 400 hikes across the country’s state park system. Designed to encourage people to utilize state parks during the winter, many of the parks waived entrance fees to increase involvement.
Last year, over 27,000 people participated, hiking over 66,000 miles and the numbers for 2015’s First Day Hike were expected to exceed those numbers.
If you’d like to learn more, or to find a park near you that participated in the event, contact your local state park or look on the online directory.
