Ferguson Police are training with this new less-than-lethal device that is said to be an air bag for bullets.
Named “The Alternative” by inventor Christian Ellis, this plastic device attaches to the end of a handgun. Upon firing a conventional bullet, the bullet is captured by a device the size of a ping pong ball which acts as an “air bag for a bullet.”
The device will still cause significant injuries, such as broken ribs. As Ellis states, this device gives a user an alternative to deadly force. Critics contend that the extra time to mount this device could cost officer lives. The cost is $45 a unit and is being tested by the Ferguson Police Department.
