Our Favorite Raccoon Recipes

Up for some wild game? Give these raccoon recipes a try.

Most assume June and July are dead months where hunting is concerned. Most animals are out of season, but not all of them.

This summer, branch out and try something new. After all, raccoon is still in season for most of the country!

We’ll provide some raccoon dressing, cleaning and butchering posts soon, but for now check out these raccoon recipes:

Crock Pot Raccoon

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large Raccoon
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 2 Stalks of Celery
  • 1 Large Green Bell Pepper
  • 4 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Can French Onion Soup
  • 1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Water

Directions:

Dress the raccoon:

  1. Thoroughly wash the raccoon under cold running water.
  2. Cut into quarters.
  3. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Stick whole clove in the meat about an inch apart.
  5. Slice the onions into quarters.
  6. Finely chop up celery and bell pepper.

Cook the raccoon:

  1. Thoroughly wash the raccoon under cold running water.
  2. Place raccoon in the crock pot.
  3. Crumble up the bay leaves and sprinkle over the meat.
  4. Add the onion, celery and bell pepper add to pot.
  5. Mix onion soup, mushroom soup and water together and pour into the pot.
  6. Turn the crock pot on high for 30 minutes.
  7. Reduce the heat to low.
  8. Cook for 6 – 8 hours or overnight.

Barbecue Raccoon

Ingredients:

  • 1 raccoon, undressed and cleaned
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 large bell pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bottle barbecue sauce

Directions:

  1. Thoroughly wash the raccoon under cold running water.
  2. Place coon in foil lined baking pan.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to baking pan.
  4. Grill over medium-high heat or bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Baked Raccoon

Ingredients:

  • 1 raccoon, undressed and cleaned
  • 2 Onions, quartered
  • 2 Stalks celery, whole
  • 4 Cloves garlic, chopped
  • 6 Louisiana Sweet Potatoes, boiled
  • Salt n’ Cayenne pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Thoroughly wash the raccoon under cold running water.
  2. Cut the raccoon meat into bite sized pieces.
  3. Place the meat in a Dutch oven with all the seasoning and just enough water to cover them by 5 or 6 inches.
  4. Place the oven over a medium hot fire.
  5. Lightly salt the water and boil until tender.
  6. Remove the meat from the oven and place in a large baking pan.
  7. Place sweet potatoes around the meat and season to taste.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes.
