In this video, get a sneak peek of a cleaned up Winchester Model 1873 that was found in Great Basin National Park.
About a year ago, a Winchester 1873 was found in Great Basin National Park, just leaning against a tree. The gun was weathered and rusted but still an awesome find.
Nobody really knows why this gun was left or why. Amazing stories surrounded the rifle and make it that much more interesting.
What happened to the rifle?
They have cleaned it up and made sure to stop the erosion of the gun. Not surprisingly, the action on the rifle is frozen and makes the gun inoperable.
The team at Cody Firearms Museum wanted to check and see if the gun was loaded. The action being frozen didn’t make that easy.
They used a dowel test and made sure that the gun was cleared. To double check, they had the gun X-rayed. I can’t believe what was found in the stock!
